Former Fulham goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is out of intensive care and will be released from hospital next week as he recovers encouraging from the brain haemorrhage he suffered earlier this month.
The Dutch legend tweeted a picture alongside his wife Annemarie this evening with the following message:
“First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages.
“I’m happy to share that I’m no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I’m still in hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery!”
van der Sar, whose £7m switch from Ajax after Fulham’s promotion to the top flight in 2001 stunned the footballing world, made made 154 appearances in four seasons with the Whites before moving to Manchester United. The highly respected footballing figure resigned in May after six years as chief executive at his first club Ajax having spent twelve years as a board member at the Dutch giants.
