Fulham have made a second contract offer to Brazilian winger Willian in a bid to keep him at Craven Cottage on the insistence of head coach Marco Silva.
Willian is considering the new terms offered by the Cottagers after starring last term as the Whites finished tenth on their return to the top flight and reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup. The 34 year-old, who recaptured the form that he had shown in winning two titles with Chelsea earlier in his career, was disappointed by the terms of the deal he was offered by Fulham and had instructed his representatives to open discussions with other interested English sides.
Willian, who scored five goals and added six assists in thirty appearances and became a key component of Silva’s side, had been identified by Silva as a crucial player to retain after cancelling his contract with Corinthians to move back to the English capital last September. According to Brazilian outlet IG Esporte, Silva has played a key part in ensuring that Fulham’s second offer underlines that they want to keep the Brazilian veteran in SW6.
At least the club for once are seeing sense and have reopened negotiations. If the issue is a two year contract and not a lot more money give it to him. He experience and high standard of play make him integral to Marco Silva plans
We want shooting if we let him slip through our fingers if its about a 2 year contract instead of one for christ sake give it to him, wouldn’t have thought this has gone down too well with Marco Silva and rightly so.Get a grip fulham, why didn’t we go out of our way to keep soliman??
Just give Willian his 2 year deal that he wants.
He is happy at Fulham and is playing good football so it’s a no brainer. As for Manor Solomon I read that Marco didn’t give him match time because Solomon wasn’t going to stick around and wanted to play for a big 6 club. Why didn’t Fulham try harder to get Solomon to sign a contract. Something not right at Fulham at the moment and it needs sorting out.
I hope the club have not made Willian feel he h as been let down and therefore wants to play elsewhere. Otherwise unless it is exhorbitant demand give him what we asked. Getting a replacement who is unlikely to come close to Willians standard and the transfer fee will be a lot more than his two year salary. I think Marco Silva might be able to persuade him to sign, provided he receives a two year contract. It is vital for our season we do not let him getaway. Then we should concentrate on defensive reinforcements both at centre and full backs. We have no cover for the latter.
I knew when i first heard that Willian was leaving because of only getting a 1 year contract, that the club had to come back with a better offer, he is too good to lose, we have too have players like him who never say die, a real winner with class.
No brainier give Willian 2 years with an option of a 3rd, he is playing like a 23 year old and is loved by everyone at the Cottage
@jay the only thing not right at Fulham is Tony khan
I don’t think it’s the years thing. The original deal was a year with a year extension on both sides. It’s wages.
Willian, even at his age, is World class. We don’t often see his like in our ranks. It would be criminal to just let him walk away.
Lunacy not to close Willian off early for the sake of an extra year on the deal. We’ve already lost D.James and Solomon. We need to keep our best players, common sense and sign a few new CBs and an extra winger.
Everyone is ignoring Allyackintosh”s role in all this, contracts are his responsibility
Not so bothered about Solomon he did not seem that impassioned about the club and think that Fulham did not buy him because they would have breached financial rules – better to have forked out for Diop . Willian on other hand is magic and joy to watch and hope he can keep ticking for two years
I agree with Jay, I thought it was odd that a guy can score 4 goals in 4 games ( one in each ) then hardly gets a game. No reason given and hardly a comment from the footballing media. Feels a bit odd to me
Macintosh and Tony Khan are the problem with our club I wish they were both gone and then we could achieve a lot more success, only fools would have let Willian and Robinson leave after the season both have had.
