Fulham are preparing an offer for Leicester City full back Timothy Castagne, according to the Athletic.

The Belgian international is interested in reviving his Premier League career after the Foxes were relegated from the top flight last season and, although new Leicester head coach Enzo Maresco is keen to keep the 27 year-old versatile defender as he plots an immediate return to the top flight, the Midlands club are planning for his likely departure before the start of the new season.

Fulham view the former Genk and Atalanta full back as an ideal acquisition as they seek to strengthen Marco Silva’s defensive options ahead of the big kick off – especially as Castagne can play in both full back positions and further forward on the right flank, where he featured for the Foxes in a pre-season friendly last week. Castagne, who has played 112 games and scored five goals in three years at the King Power Stadium, was part of the Leicester squad that lifted the FA Cup in 2021 when they beat Chelsea in the final.

A long-term Fulham target, he has won 33 senior caps for his country – scoring two goals at full international level – and was part of the Belgian squad at last year’s World Cup, playing in all three group games for Roberto Martinez’s side.
