Fulham have seen an £18m offer for Benfica central defender Morato rejected, according to reports from Portugal.

The Portuguese giants are holding out for a vast offer for the man they consider ‘the future of the Eagles defence’ according to O Jogo and believe themselves to be in a strong negotiating position as the 22 year-old is under contract for a further four years and has an £85.8m release clause.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that Fulham head coach Marco Silva is a big admirer of Morato, who won the Portuguese title last season and was named the Primeira Liga’s defender of the month in August. O Jogo underlines that Silva ‘appreciates’ Morato’s ability and he sees the Brazilian-born centre half as a ball-player who has all the credentials to succeed Tosin Adarabioyo at the heart of the defence. O Jogo’s report doesn’t disclose whether the Whites will return with an improved offer.
