Marco Silva ‘won’t be rushed’ into signing a new contract with Fulham, according to a report from the Sun this afternoon.
The Portuguese head coach, who took the Whites to tenth in the Premier League last term after winning the Championship in his first season at Craven Cottage, has twelve months left on the deal he signed after succeeding Scott Parker. Silva is happy at Fulham but wants the club’s recruitment to match his ambitions this summer.
Potential suitors for the 45 year-old may be dissuaded by the fact that they would have to activate a £6m release clause to secure Silva’s services and Fulham remain confident that their head coach will commit his long-term future to the club.
Everyone needs to calm down a bit and stop taking too much notice of these nonsense stories just written for clicks and likes.
In his position I would want evidence of our commitment to retain and recruit. The press are ramping up the Palhinha situation and the earlier denial of no release clause quelled the gossip but we’ve now simply gone quiet allowing doubt to creep back in.
Our recruitment has always been late but there is simply no reason for that this year.
He is using the leverage he has over the contract to try and get positive outcomes good luck to him
Can’t say I’m surprised. Silva made his position known last summer he wants players in early and wants the bulk of the business done before the season starts. I don’t blame him for waiting to see what we do in the market before signing.
If we don’t have a few main targets in by the USA tour in late July I can see it getting very rocky, probably being more vocal than last summer because he knows the ball is in his court.
And if we mess around in the market I don’t think we’re a very appealing proposition to other free agent managers out there like Potter who I would imagine everyone will clamour for if Silva leaves.
Agree totally with the non-signing ploy to push recruitment theory. Knowing what we do about TK and his obsession with ‘the art of the deal’ Silva is showing his wisdom.
The 6 million clause is irrelevant given what is thrown around in the EPL. It’s nonsense to claim that would put a top flight club off.
