Fulham have offered Willian a one-year contract extension, according to the Athletic this afternoon.
The veteran Brazilian winger had a sensational first season at Craven Cottage after cancelling his Corinthians contract to return to the Premier League last September. Willian, who had previously played for Chelsea and Arsenal, scored five goals and added six assists in thirty appearances for the Whites – quickly becoming an automatic selection in Marco Silva’s starting line-up.
The 34 year-old’s short-term deal expires at the end of the month but both the club and the former Brazilian international are keen for him to remain at Fulham as they look to built on finishing tenth on their return to the top flight. Willian is currently on holiday with his family, who are happy in London, and is expected to put pen to paper upon his return to the English capital. The deal includes a mutual option to trigger a further twelve-month extension.
Given his performances I would have recognised his value by a one year plus one year option at least.
I’m assuming they know what they are doing!!
The offer also comes with the option to extend for a further year if both parties want it.
Thanks Guy – this line had been wiped from my piece as I was posting on the underground via a very old school phone, so I’d added it again now.
Great stuff Dan.
Strictly a mutual option is meaningless. But shows some goodwill. Let’s hope he keeps enjoying it here. As much as I enjoy watching him…
the man is a joy to watch. I’m so pleased he is at FFC.
Presumably a mutual option means that either side can trigger the second year which will only not happen if neither want it. Seems a bit strange as a two year contract can be cancelled at any time if that’s what both sides want.
As far as I’m concerned he can stay here as long as he wants, his got magic in his feet & seems to get younger every year.

With magic feet and a joy to watch he has already become an FFC legend. Looking forward to seeing him next year.
