Willian is confident that Fulham can set a new club record Premier League points tally this season as the Whites prepare to travel to Southampton tomorrow.
Marco Silva has set his players the target of bettering the 53 points accrued by Roy Hodgson’s side in their 2008/09 season – historically the most Fulham have achieved in the top flight – and two wins from Fulham’s final three fixtures will do the trick. With confidence high after the Cottagers put five past Leicester City on Monday afternoon, the Brazilian winger believes that aim is very much within the squad’s grasp.
Willian told the club’s official website this morning:
“Absolutely we can do that. The way we play, I think we can do that, for sure. But we need to be ready because it’s going to be a good challenge for us in Southampton. We want to reach our target, they want to win and try to stay in the Premier League next season, and it will be a good game to play.
We have to expect a really hard game, we expect that when we have the ball they will come to press us everywhere, man to man. But it will be a good game. It will be a good atmosphere for both teams. With the way we play, as I said, we can go there and we can do a great job and take the three points.”
Fulham will be boosted by the return of top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic from his eight-game suspension at St. Mary’s. Willian is delighted to have the Serbian striker available again.
“A good player, an important player for us. He will be back on Saturday, and it will be a great opportunity for us, with him, to try to play well and to try to win this game there.”
He also offered praise for his compatriot Carlos Vinicius, who scored his fourth Fulham goal in the defeat of the Foxes.
“I’m really, really happy for him. In the last matches he’s scored goals, played well. Now it will be two players that can help us in many situations. I don’t know if Mitro or Vini is going to start, but both players are fit and can help us.”
I have just read a article reporting the Marco Silva will probably sign a new deal with us also mentioned was that Pauline isn’t going to be sold and sufficient funds are to be made available for incoming players. The news of Paulinha not being sold would have been in Silva’s mind regarding him signing a new contract.Fulham have had a great season and they need all the players from this season and new ones plus Silva to make an even bigger impact on the premiership next season
I was confident of survival at the start of the season but not in the emphatic way Fulham have manage it! Keeping Silva is probably the most important thing Mr Khan can do in order to avoid the tricky ‘second season syndrome’, whilst also ensuring players like William and Paulinha remain at the Cottage. However impressive recent performance have been, ( and I include the matches where we were robbed of points by the all too common ref’s bias to top teams), I have a nagging sense of ‘Fulhamish’ proportions when it comes to tomorrow’s match. Historically, Fulham have usually donated points to the woeful and the strugglers, although I accept that so far this season it has not been the case, but it surely wouldn’t come as a surprised to seasoned Fulham supporters!!
