Marco Silva has played down reports linking him with a summer switch to West Ham – saying they are merely a ‘consequence’ of Fulham’s fine first season back in the top flight.
The Whites remain confident of tying their Portuguese head coach down to a longer contract at Craven Cottage with his current deal expiring in just over a year’s time. A Daily Mail report earlier this week revealed that the 45 year-old has a £6m release clause and suggested Silva featured on West Ham’s shortlist to replace David Moyes after winning the Championship in his first season in SW6 and then surpassing all expectations by guiding the Cottagers to mid-table safety long before the end of this campaign.
The Evening Standard quotes Silva as being fairly dismissive of the rumours. The Fulham boss said:
“It’s a moment of the season when everyone is going to talk about managers, about players, about everything. There are rumours around everything. When you do a good season of course, it’s a consequence of the performance, the way the team is playing. It’s a normal situation. If there’s something new, we’re going to announce it.”
