Harry Wilson insisted Fulham have always believed that they were more than just relegation fodder on their return to the top flight after the Whites beat lowly Leeds United yesterday afternoon.

The Welsh winger broke the deadlock just before the hour mark at Craven Cottage – with his second goal in a week – and told BT Sport after the final that Marco Silva’s squad were never as downbeat about their Premier League prospects as some of the pundits.

“We’ve always had belief that we had the quality in the team to not just stay in the league but to finish higher up the table. Thankfully, we’ve been able to do that – that relegation battle is very intense this year with a number of teams down there. Luckily we’re not one of them, so we’ve just got to focus on ourselves and, like I said, finish as high up the table as we can.”

The former Liverpool winger had enjoyed a frustrating campaign before rediscovering his goalscoring touch at Goodison Park last weekend and admitted he had a bit of good fortune in how his goal came about.

“It fell lovely for me. I think it was a good team. I think it came back off the keeper and it just sat up nicely for me. It was just about getting a good connection on it – and thankfully I done that!”
