Fulham forward Jay Stansfield scored his second goal as many games for Exeter City as the Grecians ended Barnsley’s 12-match unbeaten run with a 3-1 victory at St. James’ Park last night.

The 20 year-old, who had gone 23 games without scoring until he found the net against Accrington Stanley, opened the scoring with a sensational strike midway through the first half. The Tiverton-born talent made the opening all by himself, collecting the ball by the byline, nutmegging Jordan Williams and progressing into the penalty area before bending a brilliant finish around Barnsley goalkeeper Harvey Isted.

The visitors equalised when Bobby Thomas turned in a free-kick from Luca O’Connell but Stansfield played a big part in putting City back in front five minutes after the interval. The lively striker turned provider this time supplying a superb cross for Harry Kite to score from six yards. Sam Nombe made sure of the points for Exeter when he converted a last-minute penalty for his seventeenth goal of the season as Gary Caldwell’s moved up to eleventh in the League One table.
