Fulham are mulling over a summer move for Gent’s goalscoring sensation Gift Orban, according to reports from Italy today.
The 20 year-old Nigerian striker tipped the Norwegian First Division goalscoring charts with sixteen goals in 22 appearances and helped them return to the top flight. Orban’s extraordinary record in front of goal has only continued since a January move to Belgium. He scored twice on his league debut for Ghent in a 3-3 draw with Westerlo in February and, a month later, became the first Gent player to score four times in the same match this century as his side won 6-2 at Zuite Waregem. Orban followed that up with the fastest-ever hat-trick in UEFA club competitions, scoring three goals in three minutes and 25 seconds, in the last sixteen of the Conference League last sixteen tie at Istanbul Basaksehir.
Orban, who has scored twelve goals in ten games across all competitions for Gent, has spoken publicly of his desire to play in the Premier League and today’s Gazzetta dello Sport lists Fulham as one of the clubs already tracking the young forward. Marco Silva is already considering how to strengthen his striking options for next season – and the Whites’ reliance on Aleksandar Mitrovic is set to be thrown into sharper focus when the Serbian receives what is expected to be a lengthy suspension for the scenes that led to his sending off in Fulham’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Manchester United.
The Londoners will likely face competition from Bayer Leverkusen and a number of Serie A sides for Orban’s signature.
