Fulham under 21 captain Ollie O’Neill has signed for League of Ireland side Derry City on a six-month loan deal.

The versatile Ealing-born midfielder has excelled for Steve Wigley’s under 21s this term, scoring seven goals and adding six assists as the young Whites have shone on their return to the PL2. Derry, the League of Ireland’s only Northern Irish outfit, finished second to Shamrock Rovers last season and are looking to bridge the gap by making use of the English loan market.

O’Neill, who scored a last-minute winner over Sweden that steered the Republic of Ireland under-21s into the European Championship play-offs, could make his senior debut for Derry against St. Patrick’s Athletic tomorrow night.
