Fulham are closing in on the capture of Dundee United’s wonderkid Rory MacLeod after agreeing a fee for the talented teenager, according to the Daily Record.
The paper claims this morning that the clubs have agreed an initial six-figure sum that puts the Whites at the head of the queue for the Scottish under-17 international. Macleod, who can play as an attacking midfielder or second striker but is most comfortable as an orthodox centre forward, became Dundee United’s youngest-ever player when he made his senior debut as a late substitute in a win over Motherwell aged sixteen years and six days.
MacLeod has made twelve appearances in total for the Tangerines, with ten of them coming off the bench under Liam Fox this season. Fulham’s academy partnership with United has given them an advantage in the race to sign the prodigiously talented forward, who has attracted interest from a number of leading English sides – including Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton.
MacLeod, who has been on Dundee United’s books since the age of six, has been tipped for a bright future since scoring on his under-18 debut aged only fourteen. The Record report suggests that he will travel to Motspur Park in order to finalise personal terms, which are not expected to be a problem. The youngster may well be loaned back to the Terrors in order to continue his development at Tannadice next term.
