Fulham’s Mr. Versatile Bobby Decordova-Reid has admitted that his team-mates have began talking about Europe – but only in a tongue-in-cheek way.
The Jamaican international told Metro that the Whites are ambitious to achieve things under Marco Silva, who is adamant that his players should continue to approach the season on a game-by-game basis. Decordova-Reid said:
“I’d be lying if I said we didn’t speak about it but it’s all tongue in cheek at the same time. We know it is game by game and winning matches gives us confidence and why not have that conversation sometimes between ourselves? We have that dream of “what if?” but at the same time we’re putting the work in, we don’t think anything’s done or feel that we’re better than anyone else.
Surviving was the main focus and we’ve put ourselves in a very good position. We won four matches on the bounce after the World Cup and that put us into a more comfortable place going into the new year. We’ve got things to play for, which is always exciting, and the lads can feel it. We want to achieve something this year – there’s no shame in saying that – and hopefully we do.”
Decordova-Reid, who has become a regular in Silva’s side having starred in various positions since Silva’s side were promoted back to the Premier League, defines his best position in generic terms.
I just say “attacker” now. I don’t narrow it down to one position. I’ve played defensive roles because I don’t shy away from defensive responsibility. I’m just happy to be on the pitch contributing. The higher I am up the pitch I can sniff out a goal.
The former Bristol City forward also reaffirmed how happy he is at Craven Cottage.
“It comes around quick, time flies. It means I’m getting old! It felt like home from when I first arrived. I have family here and I used to come and spent the summer holidays in London when I was younger, so it wasn’t like I was going somewhere I was lonely. I always enjoyed playing at the stadium and scored a few goals here so to play here as a home player was even better.”
