Sonny Hilton has returned to Fulham after cutting short his season-long loan to League Two Carlisle United.

The attacking midfielder, who captained Fulham’s under 23 side to the PL2 Division Two title last term, failed to start a single game during his time at Brunton Park, making only ten appearances due to injuries and manager Paul Simpson preferring some of his other midfield signings.

Simpson told Carlisle’s official website this morning:

“After recent conversations between Fulham, Sonny, and us, it was agreed that it was in Sonny’s best interests for him to return to his parent club. Since returning from his ankle injury he hasn’t got the match minutes we would all have hoped for. I have enjoyed working with him as he’s a top guy, and I wish him well.”

Hilton is back training with Fulham at Motspur Park and could feature in Friday night’s PL2 clash against Manchester United.
