Fulham’s pursuit of Marco Silva’s top January transfer target has moved closer to completion after Arsenal gave their wantaway right-back permission to talk to the Whites about a move across London.
The 31 year-old, who has made just four appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, is keen to be reunited with Silva after the pair won the Taça de Portugal whilst together at Sporting, and could soon join his former Gunners team-mate Bernd Leno at Craven Cottage. Sky Sports reported this afternoon that Fulham are now discussing personal terms with the Portuguese international, who could compete with Kenny Tete for the right back berth by the banks of the Thames.
Cedric, who has made 59 appearances since joining Arsenal from Southampton initially on loan in 2019, has extensive Premier League experience having previously played 138 games for the Saints. He has fallen down Arteta’s pecking order this term and is keen to gain more regular football.
wrong signing with the age of this player we already have ineffective defenders who lack pace and are to old namely Ream who should have been released by the club several years ago. He is slow and a ball watcher who gets easily turned and plays opposing forwards on side regularly.
We need to buy a young top quality right back and another young top quality centre back ( (like Rodon or Hinacapie) if we hope to progress our team. Young players of proven quality is what is needed like Palhino who is top class but won’t stay if we don’t buy more quality players instead of ageing has beens.
We don’t want Cedric he not what we want leave him at Arsenal
would not be a good signing. He is past his best and lacks pace. Look for a younger player possibly Bree from Luton or Aarons from Norwich.
Have to agree that Soares is too old and especially the wages he will want,Sign Bree from Luton and get value for money,or Aaron’s from Norwich
More Ream bashing above. Unbelievable, do these people actually watch games?
I was very doubtful about Ream this year but he just gets better and better age not an issue if you are playing as consistent as Ream is playing this season.
I would prefer Aaron’s or Bree as they are younger cheaper and better than the ageing Cedric who we have wasted a lot of time on, younger players are our future.
A young right back with potential who can be brought on by Tete…
Aaron has never realized what seemed a huge potential like his team mate Cantwell…Yo-yo teams don’t bring out the best in a young player perhaps…he’d be a pricey project…could Bree make the leap?…
Why does Steven Sessegnon not fit the bill here…?…he’s stand out with Charlton.
Not every signing has to be about the future…right back is a hole that needs to be filled.
If Soares can be got for little and reduces his wage demands…why not for a while…none of this would be percolating if Mbabu had shaped up.
The criticism of Ream is not even stupid.
Young signings are great for the future. Cedric is a proven Premiership defender who has worked with Marco.
I wonder if the commentators above have been to a game at the Cottage this season? They are talking Ageist shit: Ream and Willian are at the top of their game. Cedric would be a tremendous signing
If Silva wants Soares that’s good enough for me.
There was a Sky programme about him a few weeks ago and he came over very well especially mentioning his coaching ambitions. Silva knows him well and as an experienced back up full back with skills in mentoring younger players he looks like potentially a good asset.
Plus of course all the above doubts applied equally to Willian who is proving a great success. Not all purchases need to be long term – we need to spend the next two seasons establishing ourselves as a Prem standard team.
If Marco thinks Soares can do a job then that’s good enough for me. He’s worked with him before and will know what he’s capable of.
I was one of the doubters regarding Reams ability to cope with the step up, clearly Marco wasn’t and his judgement was correct.
Let the manager manage
I can understand all the pros and cons about the possible signing of Soares. If he was going to be the first choice right back then he would be an excellent short term signing for say 18 months . However the way Tete is playing, he is not likely to replace him and therefore would only be second choice/back up. Under those circumstances I personally would prefer to see a player who is younger and on smaller wages. For me Bree from Luton would seem an ideal choice.
No – we don’t want Soares – after all what does Silva know! He bought Willian and what has he done? Ream is far too old – I mean what has he done this season? Mitrovic is only great in the Championship, I mean what has he done this season? Everyone was tipping us for an instant return to the Championship but we’re sitting in sixth. Yeah, but what does Silva know? Good grief!
We need cover for Tete. If this guy provides cover for the short term then fine. I think Marco is clever enough to know younger players are better than older players. I don’t think that is ground breaking analysis.
I watch every Fulham game and tbh if you’d told me we’d be playing Ream as 1st choice centre back this season I’d have said we’re done for. I, and a lot of us, were completely wrong. This guy has stepped up so much it is ridiculous. It’s not possible for someone that age to improve so much is it? Player of the season competitor for me so far.
Comments on Ream on both sides are well founded but should we not consider the possibility that Palhinha is the key to how well Ream is playing?
Cedric can also play in the left side if needed and has lot’s of PL game time, MS knows him well so… Let’s judge the decision in the end of the season! So far things are going pretty well, or not?
And not to mention, it will one more reason for Palhinha wanting to stay, being both from Sporting and being team mates in Portugal’s National Team back then.
