Bobby Decordova-Reid shared his disappointment at Fulham’s agonising defeat by Newcastle United – but insisted there were plenty of positives to take from the Whites’ performance at St. James’ Park.

Marco Silva’s men stay in sixth despite conceding a last-minute winner to Alexander Isak and Decordova-Reid told FFCTV after the final whistle that his team-mates will reflect on the strong run since the resumption of the season to keep morale high ahead of another London derby with Tottenham at Craven Cottage next Monday.

“We’re definitely disappointed that we’ve come here with a game plan and we’ve done so well to put ourselves in a position to go and maybe win the game or get something from the game. The lads are disappointed but at the same time, look, we’ve been on a good run. We can take positives from this game as well – we’ve got to move on and go again.”

Decordova-Reid, who was fouled by Kieron Trippier for the penalty that Aleksandar Mitrovic took two touches to convert, agreed with Fulham head coach Marco Silva that Dan Burn should have been dismissed for his challenge on Andreas Pereira seconds earlier.

“I feel that it is a penalty on Andreas and I think it is a red card. It changes the game massively and they haven’t took that decision. We’ve got a penalty through the challenge on me. It is unfortunate that Mitro slipped, it happens sometimes and obviously he’s took two touches and they gave a free kick. We had an opportunity, it didn’t go our way, but we still fought. I think we gave everything we can throughout the whole game and we were up against a good side. We done well, coming here and putting up a good fight and it wasn’t to be; but listen, we’ll keep our heads up and we’ll go again.”

Despite the gutting late loss, the Jamaican international believes Fulham are still in a strong position following their fabulous post-Christmas winning run.

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position out of the five games since we’ve been back – six including the FA Cup game. We’ve done really well. We’ve got to remember that and don’t all throw it away because we’ve lost the game tonight. We’ve just got to keep plugging away – there’s a good spirit, but like I said we’re disappointed to come here and not get anything out of the game.”
