Fulham are close to concluding a deal to make Arsenal full back Cedric Soares their first signing of the winter transfer window, according to various reports this afternoon.
Head coach Marco Silva wants to sign a right back in January to challenge Kenny Tete after summer signing Kevin Mbabu has struggled to make an impact at Craven Cottage. The Swiss international has made just one league start for Silva and missed out on his country’s World Cup squad last month. Fulham were keen on signing Soares in the summer and reopened talks with Arsenal, who have told the former Southampton defender that he can leave north London when the transfer window reopens.
Soares, who initially joined the Gunners on loan in 2020, has made just four first-team appearances this season and is keen to get more regular football next month. A move to Fulham appeals, especially as his compatriot Silva has guided the Whites into the top half of the Premier League table – greatly exceeding expectations after winning promotion in his first campaign at SW6.
