Fulham forward Aleskandar Mitrovic has been named in Serbia’s World Cup squad – despite fears that he could miss their opening group game against Brazil with a foot injury.

Serbia’s record goalscorer, who clinched their place in Qatar with a dramatic stoppage-time header against Portugal in Lisbon last year, will head to his first World Cup finals in fine form having scored nine times in twelve league appearances for the Whites this season.

Legendary head coach Dragan Stojkovi? has to negotiate a tough group which also includes Switzerland and Cameroon as well as the Brazilians. Mitrovic’s fitness, with domestic reports suggesting he has broken bones in his foot, is still something of an unanswered question – with doubts over whether he will feature for Fulham in Sunday’s Craven Cottage clash with Manchester United.
