It is 24 years ago today that Paul Peschisolido, Fulham’s first £1m player, stunned Anfield with a stupendous equaliser for Kevin Keegan’s Second Division side in a pulsating League Cup tie.

Teenage me described this as one of Fulham’s best ever goals in my match report and I stand by that assessment even now:

Fulham were outstanding in this game and a side featuring several stalwarts from the lower league days and belied the difference in status between the sides until a penalty from Robbie Fowler and a late strike by Paul Ince settled the issue. There was a lovely ovation for Peter Beardsley, when he reappeared at his old stomping ground in Fulham colours as a late substitute, but the quality of Peschisolido’s moment of magic remains my endearing memory.
