In-form Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has been nominated for the Professional Football Association’s Premier League player of the month award for August.

The Serbian striker’s sensational start to the season has seen him score five goals in as many games as the Whites have surprised all the pundits on their return to the top flight. Mitrovic began his campaign with a brace in the dramatic 2-2 draw against Liverpool and recovered from the disappointment from missing a late penalty at Molineux by bagging two more goals to beat Brentford, including a trademark last-minute header after the Bees had battled back from a two-goal deficit.

The 27 year-old then set Marco Silva’s side on their way to a crucial Craven Cottage victory over then undefeated Brighton and Hove Albion. Mitrovic is up against Manchester City’s magnificent centre forward Erling Haaland, the Arsenal pair of Gabriel Jesus and Martin Ødegaard, Brighton’s Pascal Gross and Crystal Palace winger Wilf Zaha.
