Marco Silva insists there is much more to come from his Fulham side after the Whites’ goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux this afternoon.
The visitors were competitive once again for long spells against Bruno Lage’s outfit but spurned a glorious opportunity to take all three points when Aleksandar Mitrovic’s late spot-kick was saved by Jose Sa.
Silva told his post-match press conference:
“It was a tough game for us, like we expected against a good side. A team that we knew were playing their first Premier League match at home, we knew what type of atmosphere we would play against here, one that would push them further for sure. They wanted to win the game as it was their first game, playing against a team that was promoted as well, that was always their obligation.
First half, our first press was not at the level it should be. They started to command the game as we failed a little bit with our first press. Their midfielders played without pressure the first 25 minutes and started to play inside our block, something we didn’t want.
But they didn’t create many clear chances, maybe one each half or two in the second half. We controlled the game well more or less, but on the ball we have to do much better.”
We have the capacity to do better. Of course it was a tough afternoon for both teams as it was very, very hot, [but] we were not dynamic enough with the ball. We want to use the ball quicker to utilise the spaces that we want to explore, and that was the thing that I took from the game, that we can clearly improve. But we showed very good organisation for the most part of the game, the togetherness, playing for each other, fighting for each other.
In the last moments of the game we showed maturity as well, which was important. Clean sheet is always important to have as well, and we have to go again.”
We need some creative quality. There is no use saying we have the capacity or quality to improve because we don’t.
We have.a keeper, centre back and right full back in reserve that can only enhance the team when they get their chance (s).
Reed and Palhinha are forging a formidable defensive partnership in the middle.
But we do not have the attacking quality that can make a difference and add dynamism to our play.
I believe Perira will improve (and he needs to). He has the ability.
I know Mitro will score a good number of goals if the chances are created for him.
But we need quality and creativity in the absence of Wilson and Solomon.
So, hopefully, we can expect some activity in the market very soon.
Agreed. We didn’t look like scoring to be honest. It’s clear Wilson and Solomon would be playing if not injured and I think that would be a massive step up. BDR and Kebano are average and ok but we need more. Just goes to show you need 2 decent players per position in this league. We don’t have back up in Mitro and the 3 forwards. Looks like they’re trying to get them so hopefully that will happen soon.
Agreed that the back 4 have way exceeded expectations so far and Reed and Palhinia’s protection is a big part of that.
Rodak’s error and poor punch in the first half weren’t great. I think the fact that Silva is making the recruits ‘earn’ a place in the team has been a good move. I was thinking he should just put them in but keeping the recruits hungry and rewarding the old guard whilst they’re performing was the right call.
Finally, good to hear Marco keeping the pressure on TK in the post match interview saying he still needs more recruits
A good point i would have taken that before kick off. Defensively we looked fairly sound. The biggest negative for me was the performance of Peirira who was abysmal and should have been replaced by Cairney at half time. It was great to see Stansfield come on albeit too late in the game, he looks the real deal but needs more game time at least 20 minute from the subs bench
Read the reviews with interest as l wasn’t at the game. Why is TC getting so little game time? After all he is very influentful for the attack when he plays. Glad that Jay got a few minutes. When you look at the two goals conceded they were down to our CB’s and with Mitro’s shoddy pen we could have had 6 points already. OK l’m happy with 2 and the way we’re playing, Let’s get this first win under our belt and go on from there.
Call in the cavalry for back four,
Why are we after Kluivert he is utter and complete crap. Let’s not just add another player just for the sake of it. If Roma don’t want him that should tell you everything.
I agree that Kluivert is a big risk we really should be bringing in quality players not maybe’s.
I think BDR and Kebano very rarely provide a good final ball so we do need new faces in.
May sound harsh but we need to bring in tried and tested recruits if we want to stay in the prem.
