Marco Silva pointed to the positives after Fulham drew 1-1 with Villarreal in their last pre-season friendly before the start of the Premier League season this afternoon.

The Whites were indebted to Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for saving them from defeat against the Yellow Submarine. Mitrovic tucked home a terrific Kevin Mbabu cross six minutes from time to bring the hosts level after Dani Parejo had volleyed the visitors in front ten minutes before the break.

The Fulham head coach told his post-match press conference:

“We finished our pre-season against a Champions League team and we knew the quality they’d have on the ball. We had some good moments, but we didn’t finish the way we should have but that’s part of the process and we’ll keep working on it. Losing 1-0 at half time was an unfair result for us to be fair. We lacked a bit of the intensity I like to see in the second half but we believed until the end that we could change the scoreline. It was a good game against a good side and we’ve taken lots of positives from it.”

Silva hailed the impact of his summer signings:

“I’m really pleased. Everyone can see that they can add something different. Kevin will help us to be more competitive down the right and Andreas [Pereira] is a quality player who can play in different positions and roles. He knows the Premier League well which is really important for us.
