Fulham have completed the signing of Swiss international full back Kevin Mbabu from Wolfsburg this morning, for a fee that could rise to around £6m.
The 27 year-old former Newcastle United right back has signed an initial three-year contract at Craven Cottage – with the newly-promoted Premier League side retaining an option to trigger a twelve month extension of that deal. Mbabu returns to English football after a lengthy summer of negotiations between the Whites and Wolfsburg, for whom he made 82 appearances and helped qualify for the Champions’ League when they finished fourth in the Bundesliga in 2021.
Mbabu, who won the back-to-back Swiss domestic doubles with Young Boys between 2017 and 2019, told FFCTV that was delighted to become the club’s fourth summer signing.
“I’m happy to be here as a Fulham Football Club player. It’s a relief and now I can focus on my goals and the club’s goals, and help the team to be successful. The first step is to stay in the Premier League, stay stable in the league, and then why not aim for the top ten?”
Like most of our deals, this one took a while but, finally, he is here and he is a level up from Kenny Tete IMO.
Looking forward to seeing him play.
Tantalisingly slowly but surely we are getting a decent squad together but it’s a shame it’s like watching very wet paint dry.
I agree with Charles we are too slow by far bringing players in and I just hope we get 2 centre backs in before we face Liverpool, we also need to hurry up and get Leno in before Leicester hijack him if he is our main target for goal keeper.
As mentioned very slow recruitment again in typical Fulham style under TK. Must get Leno this week before Leicester steal him other options were surely not serious considerations!
Desperately need at least one CB, preferably two so there is some backup, Ream will be the focus for every team if we have to field him.
Also concerned about depth of squad. Can see a fairly good eleven with 2-3 subs but beyond that ?????
A welcome addition who should strengthen the squad. However, the very first signing should have been the one of two centre backs Fulham desperately need. Instead the first transaction was a one year extension of Ream’s contract! Welcome back to the Championship.
