Fresh from winning the Johnny Haynes’ Trophy as Fulham’s academy player of the year, Sonny Hilton has signed for Carlisle United on a season-long loan.

The 21 year-old attacking midfielder, equally comfortable in the number ten role or the right wing, enjoyed an outstanding campaign as captain of Fulham’s under 23 side last season – scoring eleven goals and adding nineteen assists as Steve Wigley’s side won the Premier League 2 Second Division.

The England youth international, who worked under Carlisle boss Paul Simpson when he was coaching England’s under 20 side, has moved to Brunton Park to secure regular first team-football. Simpson told Carlisle’s official website:

“He’s a really talented footballer, but also a great lad as well. I enjoyed working with him and I heard he was available for a loan for the coming season a few weeks ago. He had a really successful season with the 23s at Fulham last time out and they feel he’s ready.

His numbers in terms of assists and goals were as good as it’s been, and I want players like that in the club. I like young, hungry and talented footballers and, like I say, I want that type of player in the building.”
