Aleksandar Mitrovic savoured ‘a special night’ at Craven Cottage after he broke the second tier goalscoring record and Fulham lifted the Championship trophy following a 7-0 spanking of Luton Town.

The Serbian striker surpassed Guy Whittingham’s tally of 42 goals with his second of the evening – scored in the third minute of stoppage time – as Marco Silva’s side pummelled the Hatters in front of a delirious home crowd.

Mitrovic told the press afterwards:

“I always try to say I don’t think about the record, but everybody spoke about the record and today it happened and its very special. We really wanted a big win in front of the crowd. To break the record is perfect.”
