Fulham attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho will join Liverpool on 1 July, both clubs have confirmed in official statements. The teenager, who shone as the Whites stormed to the Championship table this season, has signed a five-year deal at Anfield and will join Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad for Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the Far East.

Liverpool made a concerted effort to sign Carvalho towards the end of the January transfer window, but Fulham rejected an offer in the region of £4.5m. The teenager had refused to extend his current deal and it is understood that the Londoners will receive around £5m up front, with a further £2.7m in potential add-ons.

The nineteen year-old leaves Craven Cottage after spending almost a decade with Fulham having broken into Balham’s youth set up after his family left Portugal for London. Carvalho, who made his debut at under-21 level for Portugal in March, was a prodigious talent in Fulham’s highly-rated academy and made his senior debut as a late substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup in September 2020.

The gifted playmaker had to wait until the Whites were on the cusp of relegation from the top flight to make his Premier League debut from the bench at Stamford Bridge, but scored on his first start in the division in the subsequent defeat at Southampton. He became a regular under Marco Silva, scoring ten goals and adding eight assists, as Fulham bounced straight back from the bitter disappointment of going down.
