American goalkeeper Alex Borto has put pen to paper on ‘a long-term’ contract with Fulham, the club have announced this evening.
The 18 year-old has impressed at Motspur Park since signing from Cedar Stars Academy two years ago and has featured for both the under 18s and under 23s this season. He has also joined the senior squad on matchdays, helping to warm up both Marek Rodak and Paulo Gazzaniga, and is delighted to have committed his future to the Cottagers.
Borto told the club’s website:
“I couldn’t be more happy to sign this deal. It’s something that every footballer dreams of and my hard work here has paid off. Most importantly, I believe that Fulham has a great plan in place for me so this is best for my career. I loved every minute I spent with the senior group. Going to a few of the games as third choice goalkeeper was an amazing and humbling experience. Training with Marek, Paulo and Fabri every day was great and they all gave me tips and advice that has really helped.”
Fulham’s academy director Mike Cave added:
“I’m delighted that Alex has chosen to extend his time at the Club. He has made great progress over the last couple of seasons, performing well for both age groups, whilst also representing the US at Under-20 level. We look forward to supporting Alex in the next chapter of his career as he aims to progress into the senior game.”
That’s good news keeping our young players and giving them a long contract before they get snapped up by another club for next to nothing, good to see Khan may be learning from past mistakes.
Agree John B. For too long the media label stickers have us as a nursery for their favourites. Once you go the destination for most is the bench followed by disappearance for some. Stockpiling is another name.
