Fulham pair Harry Wilson and Neco Williams helped Wales move closer to qualifying for a first World Cup finals since 1958 – as Rob Page’s side beat Austria 2-1 in Cardiff.

Both Fulham stars played crucial parts in Wales’ play-off semi-final success. Wilson won the free-kick that Gareth Bale bent in a brilliant free-kick to put the Welsh in front, whilst Williams produced some moments of magical skill in an all-action performance as an inverted left wing back. Bale, battling back problems in the build up to this game, scored a brilliant brace to put the Welsh in charge – although they had a nervy wait to make sure of their progress after Marcel Sabitzer’s deflected drive reduced Austria’s arrears.

A disciplined Welsh defence held out to win their way through to a final play-off against either Scotland or Ukraine for a place in Qatar.
