Fulham are interested in signing Santa Clara right back Rafael Ramos, according to reports this morning.

The Portuguese defender, widely regarded as one of the most consistent full backs in the Primeira Liga, has just a year remaining on his current contract with the Azoreans and is believed to be keen on a move to England. Fulham will face competition from Burnley to sign the 27 year-old, according to Football Insider.

The former Portuguese under-20 international, who came through the famed Sporting Lisbon academy set up, helped FC Twente win the Dutch second tier title in 2019 before returning to his homeland to sign for Santa Clara. He has made 82 appearances for his current club, impressing in their recent drew at Braga where they held on for a point despite being reduced to nine men.

Ramos is likely to be seen as an alternation to Neco Williams, who is enjoying a sensational loan spell at Craven Cottage from Liverpool, at right back. Fulham boss Marco Silva, who is well aware of Ramos’ ability, is beginning his preparations for a busy summer as the Championship leaders contemplate another attempt at staying in the top flight.
