Denis Odoi’s first start for Club Brugge tonight came in central midfield. I wrote upon his departure from Craven Cottage that the Fulham stalwart always felt like a frustrated midfielder, but I never quite envisaged him marauding fully seventy yards – working a one-two at speed – and laying on an opening goal as he did against Charleroi this evening.

It is absolutely glorious. Brugge won 2-0 – to keep their hopes of winning the Belgian title alive. Perhaps he’ll swing from the crossbar then, too?
