Fulham forward Terry Ablade came so close to scoring his first senior goal as his brilliant bicycle kick hit the crossbar towards the end of AFC Wimbledon’s goalless draw at Gillingham last night.

The Finnish under 21 international has had to make do with fleeting substitutes’ appearances since being loaned to the Dons last month. Ablade has started just one fixture and has largely been used from the bench by manager Mark Robinson. He almost provided the telling moment of quality at Priestfield last night, brilliantly hooking a header from Will Nightingale towards goal with six minutes left – only to be denied by the woodwork.

The Dons haven’t won in fourteen league games but remain above the League One relegation zone. Wimbledon face Doncaster at Plough Lane on Saturday.
