Groningen are in discussions with Fulham about a potential loan move for defender Terence Kongolo, according to Sky Sports.

The Whites are eager to loan out their Dutch international in order for him to gain regular football after an injury-ravaged spell at Craven Cottage. The 27 year-old has only appeared for Fulham’s under 23s this season and struggled for both form and fitness since signing permanently from Huddersfield for £4m in October 2020. His initial loan spell the previous season ended early after he broke his foot at Blackburn in only his second appearance.

Marco Silva has spoken about his desire to arrange a loan to allow Kongolo, who was part of the Dutch squad that finished third at the 2014 World Cup, to prove his fitness. Reports from Holland last week suggested that a return to his homeland was likely and Groningen, currently eleventh in the Eredivisie, are eager to offer the former Monaco man a first-team opportunity.
