Fulham forward Jay Stansfield has been called up to England’s under 20 squad after the Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt pulled out through injury.
The former Exeter striker scored one and made another for England’s under 20s in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic last month. The teenager has been in terrific form for Fulham’s under 23 side so far this season, scoring three times in five appearances for Steve Wigley’s side, as the young Whites have surged to the top of the table. Stansfield also scored his first senior goal in the first team’s League Cup win over Birmingham City back in August.
England play Portugal in Leiria on Thursday, kicking off at 5pm.
What great news for the boy, I think he needs to be given a go in the 1st team against one of the weaker teams, I think he may surprise a few people.
Fulham FC must hold on to him!
We have to start bringing our good youngsters into the first team squad or else we will keep losing them on the cheap, it’s no use having a good academy if we are losing our best youngsters because we are not giving them a chance in the first team.
