Fabio Carvalho has rejected Fulham’s offer of a new contract as he considers offers from a host of Premier League clubs, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The teenager starred towards the tail end of last season as he was introduced to the senior side with the Whites battling against the drop. Having made his first team debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, Carvalho got his Premier League bow as a substitute at Stamford Bridge before scoring on his first senior start at Southampton. He made six appearances in total and has impressed new manager Marco Silva during pre-season.
Carvalho, who scored the winner in last weekend’s final friendly win over Charlton, is expected to start this afternoon’s Championship opener against Middlesbrough in the absence of club captain Tom Cairney. Fulham are desperate to keep the 18 year-old at Craven Cottage as he enters the final year of his current contract but their first attempt at tying the talented playmaker to a longer deal failed.
Several sides are looking at the Portuguese-born attacking midfielder, including West Ham, Leeds United, Norwich City and Porto.
That’s truly crap news to hear on such an uplifting day returning to the Cottage for competitive football with a crowd. Hope he’s just holding out for more and will sign on the dotted line soon
Damn. The same old song.
Where is the incentive to run a youth academy? I hope FFC are offering a decent deal for him, he has done well. If not then the club get what they deserve.
I also hope this isn’t an agent doing what they did with Ryan S and Patrick R, got them deals somewhere else and they go nowhere.
Very deflating if true.
Another youngster wanting to go become anonymous at another club. Let him go if he’s not commited.
Indeed, terrible news. Agents, parents, asking for a lot of money for kids that have proven nothing, that have barely cracked the first team. Make a decent offer to Fabio. If he rejects it, tell him to come with 20m+add ons and if no one is willing to pay, send him down to the academy and bench him for the whole season. WTF is wrong with football, it’s rotten, too much money in it. A teenager who should be thrilled about making a first team impression, bringing us back to the PL, and playing in the PL next season, flirting with other clubs? Sad.
Saw this coming a mile off
Don’t play him until he signs a contract
I agree with all the above there is no point having an academy if all we are doing is bringing through players for other clubs, where is the loyalty from these greedy youngsters, just greedy bastards if he wants to go put a massive price on his head and let him train on his own why should we train and teach them for them to up and leave they make me sick.
Indeed WTF is wrong with Football. This is same old story with FFC Academy players . If FFC are offering a decent deal then he is mad not to take it and become key figure in a team going back up with a great manager. Other teams just want to tick the home grown youth box and then loan out . Cant he see this ! And where indeed is the loyalty..
All been said he’s proved nothing yet, still learning his trade, will never be heard of again like most that leave us. Only recently saying how much he’s looking forward to season . It’s greedy agents who don’t care about the kids
Bench him until some sense gets into his head. Its not like he’s the new Rooney
Looks like someone has got to him and turned his head. I agree totally, what is the point of the academy if they are going to leave before we get any benefit
As an American, I suppose I just don’t understand the need or reason of any club having a youth academy if the talent that is groomed is not contractually tied to the parent club.
To lose FC will not doom our season, as I believe if we stay healthy we will be promoted.
Unless and until the academy rules or stipulations are changed, the young players will move wherever they are wanted, and this certainly is not a specific problem to Fulham. I could care less what the reason is that his representative has turned down the clubs offer, but it does say one thing, and that is he isn’t as appreciative of the time and expense spent on his development to this point.
The kid needs to wake up and smell the coffee. He only got to look at what has happened to RS & PR and spend a lot of the time in the reserve’s or being loan out to other clubs.
can people relax before they start condemning the kid? a few rumours swirling around and it may be that he feels he is worth more than we offered…
