Former Fulham defender Michael Madl has called time on his playing career after struggling with a series of persistent knee injuries.
The Austrian international, who has spent the last three seasons with Austria Vienna, has turned his attentions to coaching after retiring at the age of 33. Madl already holds his UEFA B licence and has started work as joint coach of the Austria Vienna under-18 side.
Madl made 32 appearances for Fulham between 2016 and 2018 after becoming one of Slavisa Jokanovic’s first signings at Craven Cottage, scoring his solidarity goal for the Whites against Charlton in February 2016.
Loved Michael Madl. Never forget when he came into a very shaky defence and produced a masterclass to get Slavisa Jokanovic’s first win at QPR. Hope his coaching career goes well.
Wish him all the best in his new career. I thought he was a decent defender who should have had more game time.
