Fulham winger Sylvester Jasper is currently on trial with Sheffield Wednesday.
The 19 year-old played 45 minutes in Wednesday’s 2-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Barnsley earlier today. Wednesday boss Darren Moore told Yorkshire Live: “We have got him here for seven days just to have a look at him. Pre-season allows me to look at these players who have been on my radar in terms of where I have been in the last couple of seasons.
Pre-season allows you to bring them in and look at them close hand without really committing. He has come today and had a good outing. He has got wonderful technical ability that we have seen today. He carries a threat and is a clean striker of the ball and he gets defenders on the back foot.”
Jasper, comfortable on either wing, has made three senior appearances for Fulham since being handed his debut as a substitute in the FA Cup defeat by Manchester City last January. He signed a three-year contract with the club in August but doesn’t appear to be in new manager Marco Silva’s immediate first team plans. Jasper, who scored eight goals in sixteen league games for Fulham’s under 23 side last season, is expected to feature in Wednesday’s friendly against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.
It would be great send out on loan to get playing 1st team games. This should not be permanent, we need to keep our academy talent and get them into the 1st team.
Am I the only one who finds this to be particularly weird?
This kid was never given a real chance by Parker-which was typical of his approach to playing youngsters (despite what he spouted)-yet he made the bench on numerous occasions. That alone suggests that he had something about him.
How come he is now at Sheffield Wednesday with a view to a loan deal?
Even weirder, how come he is on trial first to see if they really want to take him on loan?
You couldn’t blame Jasper for feeling confused and hard done by. He has gone from being part of. squad in the Premiership to being assessed to see if he is good enough for League One!
