Former Fulham midfielder Lee Clark has resigned as manager of Sudanese side Al-Merrikh.

The 48 year old’s installation as boss of the Sudanese champions came as something of a surprise in March but his African tenure has come to an abrupt end after three months. Clark led Al-Merrikh to four wins, two draws and two defeats during his time in charge but he handed in his resignation over the weekend having been unable to bridge the gap to leaders Al-Hilal. He leaves Al-Merrikh second in the table, two points behind Al-Hilal with a game in hand.

An Al-Merrikh statement said: “The journey of our boss Lee Clark with us comes to an end after he resigns as head coach of our club and the Board of Directors announces its acceptance of the resignation. Thank you, Lee. We wish you the best in your next step.”
