Former Fulham midfielder Lee Clark is back in management after being named as the surprise new boss of Sudanese Premier League side Al-Merrikh.

Clark, now 48, was appointed as the new Red Devils boss this evening just 48 hours after the club sacked Nasreddine Nabi following their 0-0 CAF Champions League draw Simba SC. Al-Merrikh are second in the Premier League table but Nabi appears to have paid the price for their wobbly Champions League form, as they are bottom of their group after three matches.

Al-Merrikh are one of Sudan’s most successful sides and won the domestic title last season. Clark has been out of management since leaving the National League North side Blyth Spartans a year ago. He had been involved as a part-time director of football at Newcastle Blue Star but now resumes a managerial career that started brightly at Huddersfield Town, with an as yet unsurpassed EFL record 43-match unbeaten run in 2008.
