Fulham are among a number of clubs preparing an offer for in-demand Peterborough forward Siriki Dembele, according to reports this afternoon.
Football Insider claims that the Whites, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest are all keen on signing the 24-year-old, who submitted a transfer request earlier this month. Dembele, who can operate as a conventional striker or on either wing, has scored six goals in twenty appearances for the League One side this season and has been a longstanding Fulham target.
Celtic are also keen on reuniting Dembele with his brother Karamoko at Parkhead and Old Firm rivals Rangers are reported to be monitoring his availability as well. Peterborough dismissed a £250,000-loan-to-buy approach from Forest last week and, although Dembele is keen to leave London Road by the end of this transfer window, Posh will be seeking a substantially improved offer to part with a player who remains in their first-team plans.
UPDATE: Peterborough director of football Barry Fry says that Fulham scout Brian Talbot, who watched Dembele during Peterborough’s 1-0 win at Ipswich on Saturday, has told him the Premier League club will not be making an offer in this window.
Be a good signing for Fulham fc hope we’re get him
Will this happen don’t hold your breath
To stand ANY chance of staying up we need a striker getting Dembele could be the answer but it’s a big step from league 1 to the premiership .but if we went down he would be an asset in the championship, let’s get Gayle as well why we are at it
Tarkowski Targett, Watkins and loosing Dembele & Elliott for ziltch
DONT HOLD YOUR BREATH
Fully agree with us going for this lad – got to ask though: why didn’t we start this at the beginning of the window. Our owner is in the top ten richest men in America but, from where I’m sitting, recruitment seems very half-hearted. If we strengthen our squad and stay up it will make us a bigger draw to the players we look at in the future.
Fulham will only want to take him on loan, remember we don’t buy decent players it’s not Khans way that’s why we ways struggle in the top division.
Your update says it all. More rubbish talk to get all of us hyped up when, in reality, our owners have, historically, shown us nothing to think that they have our Premiership status as a priority. Why should their mishandling of the club change now?
Still no explanation of what Scott Parker meant by his reference to “investors having concerns” nor why he is so certain that we will not be signing a striker. He is, obviously, privy to the brutal truth.
Because of this backward thinking, the reality for Fulham fans is that, despite a valiant effort, a lack of goals will see us condemned to relegation, our star performers will return to their parent clubs and we will have to endure next season in the Championship with the majority of our team made up of the players that won promotion (just) last season- albeit with the addition of permanent signings Tete and Reed. I haven’t included Anguissa or Tosin, also permanent signings, because they will almost certainly be sold for big bucks with foreign clubs such as Juventus already being linked.
This is the Khan’s approach to modern football. Don’t splash the cash. Draft in loan players wherever possible and let the chips fall where they may.
Don’t despair though fans. We will have the return to our ranks of such brilliant back up as Christie, Knockaert, Bettinelli, Mawson, S. Sessegnon (the incredible disappearing man) et al
The future is bright!!!
What is it with Fulham and a host of other clubs that it takes them so long to sign anyone that it hardly seems worthwhile as the games are going by quickly that they need a good player in now (a striker)
Why are we building a new stand I would ask the Khans that if they have no interest what is that all about or once it’s built are they going to sell it as a championship club because that’s where we will be that’s why Parker looked a bit pissed off at the press conference the other day I watched it twice and kept looking at his face and thought somethings not right just a gut feeling perhaps he had had a bit of an argument maybe don’t know as the rest of the comments said we will defineately lose people Like Lookman,Areola and Andersen very true why does it always take Us ages to buy anybody
We never buy a player in the January window until the last 24 hours . And then he is usually carrying a long term injury and unable to play until March by which time our fate might be sealed . But the players agent has the foresight to write into contract that if we are relegated the player can move onto another higher league club . Focus on getting Mitro back to his best , 10 goals from him could make the difference .
New stand? There is zero benefit to the Khans on the pitch side.
The reason they are building it has nothing whatsoever to do with football or the benefit of Fulham Football Club. We are fools to think that this is some sort of gift to the fans.
On the river side however, it’s a totally different ball game. Think of the rental revenue that the Khans will receive from restaurants, shops and apartments. Short let apartments at that. That means that, instead of a one off selling price, the Khans will continue to earn rental income for many years to come.
They are no mugs when it comes to earning money.
And, you know what, fair play to them. It’s nothing more than Al Fayed tried to do before them. They have just been a bit cleverer in twisting Hammersmith Council around their little finger(s).
But, all we the fans ask, is for you to help us stay in the Premiership and sign a quality striker. It’s not much to ask, is it?
I think the Khan’s are building the stadium for the jaguars, don’t think they care much and certainly don’t know fuck all about football, if they did they would have appointed someone who knows how and who to recruit, shouldn’t have wasted big money on shit players then maybe could have bought a couple of players in this window to stay up.
Wow! Just read Barry Fry’s comments re our interest in Dembele. No offer in this window. May be interested in the summer when our finances are sorted out.
What the hell is going on?
So we have gone into this window in the full knowledge that we had no money to spend?
How can that possibly be the case?
With the guaranteed TV income from gaining promotion, we should have circa 50m available.
We signed Tete, Reed, Robinson, Tosin and Kongolo for a total outlay of approximately 18m.
I know that Lemina’s loan fee is 2m and Andersen’s is 1m, Aina’s 500k and Lookman 300k.
If we allow 1m each as loan fees for Loftus Cheek and Areola, that means a total expenditure of approx 24m.
Surely that allows for the signing of the missing ingredient?
Please, owners of Fulham Football Club, even if you have to draw down on next season’s tranche of TV money, it has to be done if you want to preserve our Premiership status.
