Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic couldn’t have wished for a better birthday present – bringing up a half-century of goals in the Whites’ League Cup win at Ipswich last night.
The Serbian striker, who captained Scott Parker’s side having been restored to the starting line up at Portman Road, settled the tie just before the break with a powerful header from Kenny Tete’s perfect ball in. He told FulhamFCTV that there were plenty of positives to take from a good night’s work:
It was a nice birthday present – clean sheet, a goal and 50 goals. It was a nice birthday. It was nice to get a few minutes and be back in the team. I had a tough end to the season, with a few injury problems. I got a few minutes in the Arsenal game as well. I feel good, especially when you score goals, you feel even better. It was a top performance against a good side and nice to have a first win of the season.
Mitrovic hailed the quality of Fulham’s winner – from a fine switch of play at the back by Maxime Le Marchand through to Tete’s superb assist on debut.
It was great action. From one side, we changed to the other. Kenny’s a really good offensive full-back, who has a really nice right foot with good crosses. We saw this for a few days in training. It was a great ball, a good header and great action from all of the team, to be honest.
We have changed the system since the last season [in the Premier League]. We have very offensive full backs and lots of players who can put balls into the work. I had to do my job now, be in the box and try put the ball in the net.
