Fulham have overtaken AZ Alkmaar in the race to sign Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo, according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

The Dutch international has Premier League appearance having performed well when Town were in the top flight and is reportedly keen to return to Craven Cottage after last season’s loan spell was cut short following a foot injury. The 26 year-old defender seems to be surplus to requirements at the John Smith’s Stadium, despite making sixty appearances in three seasons with the Yorkshire outfit, and appears destined to move on this summer.

Huddersfield are eager to recoup as much money as possible with the sale of Kongolo, who was rumoured to have cost as much as £17.5m when he turned his outstanding loan spell into a permanent move to Town, and will seek to encourage a bidding war between AZ and Fulham for his services.
