Aleksandar Mitrovic has won the Sky Bet Championship Golden Boot after hitting 26 goals in the regular 2019/20 season.
The Serbian striker faced stiff competition from Ollie Watkins throughout the campaign, but leapfrogged the Brentford forward in the rankings with a brace in the penultimate match against Sheffield Wednesday.
The feat is all the more impressive considering that Mitrovic played 540 fewer minutes than Watkins, owing to injury and suspension.
It is the first time a Fulham player has claimed the Golden Boot in almost 20 years, when Louis Saha scored 27 times in our Division One winning campaign.
“It’s a nice honour,” Mitrovic said. “It means I did my job well this season, so I’m happy with this.
“Of course I want to thank my teammates and Manager, everyone at the Club who helped me to win this. I want say a big thank you because without them I wouldn’t have won.
“It’s a nice award and I’m happy to win it. Now hopefully we can finish the job and get promoted.
“It would be nice to follow this award with one more Play-Off winner’s medal. That’s what we’re working towards and hopefully we can do it.”
