Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet cut a frustrated figure as he held his media postmortem after Birmingham City’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham.

The caretaker head coach felt his side deserved at least a point from the game – and disputed the Aleksandar Mitrovic’s goal.

If you think about it with a cool head we did enough to get something out of the game.

If you look at the data we had 16 shots, they had ten, we had four shots on target, they had three. With these three shots, two are valid because I think the goal is a very, very blatant foul on Marc Roberts.

They had a very clear chance, the one-on-one with Campy that Campy sorted out very well but we had very clear chances as well that we should have scored.

We didn’t have as many shots as we had last week against Cardiff but obviously we are playing very difficult opposition.

I do think that we had everything in there to make sure we secured points, if not three – one.

Fulham’s winner was a very clear foul, Mitrovic never wants to head that cross, he thinks the ‘keeper is going to catch it and he just crashes against Marc Roberts who had the position he wanted.

Marc Roberts is sent three yards outside and the ball drops to Mitrovic who is in that position thanks to a foul on Marc Roberts. It’s clear.

After two defeats in a row You have to take things in perspective. We played against two teams who were in the Premier League last season, two teams who two seasons ago had no problems going up, they were dominant in the Championship.

They still have that experience and the quality of everyone they brought in for the Premier League and they have been playing together for a lot of years, each one of them in their own style.

I think it just shows that we are a team in progression, we are not finished. We need to take our chances.

We have improved a lot in defence with the fact we don’t allow Fulham to have the shots on target they are used to – and we had many more shots on target than they are used to.

That just shows it’s a very young team, we are consolidating a lot of work and this kind of result comes when you are in this situation.

It’s very difficult in football to go from the position we were in last season to the position of the teams who are in the higher part of the table.

It’s about working and improving and during this process you are going to find yourself you are going to deserve to win some games and you don’t take them.

Eventually the league table with show a level in accordance with all the work we are putting in.
