Slavisa Jokanovic has declined an offer from Stoke City to interview for their vacant managerial post.

Jokanovic was approached following the sacking of Gary Rowett on Tuesday but after initial discussions, it became clear the job was not right for the former Fulham manager at the current time.

Stoke’s selection panel will consist of chairman Peter Coates, his son and vice-chairman John Coates, and chief executive Tony Scholes.

They have begun drawing up a shortlist of candidates to succeed Rowett, and Jokanovic was one of the names on their list.

Stoke are looking for their fourth manager in 12 months, after the club had just two managers in the previous 12 years.

It is understood the selection panel are determined to conduct a painstaking recruitment process, so that the next manager has greater chance of success, and longevity.
