Fulham’s new goalkeeping coach Jose Sambade Carreira is heading back to Spain after just two games with the Premier League newcomers.
Carreira, appointed this summer by Slavisa Jokanovic ahead of the club’s return to the top flight, was reportedly prominent in Fulham’s decision to sign Spanish goalkeeper Fabri from his former employers Besiktas this summer. He started the season as Jokanovic’s number one but was punished for two mistakes by Crystal Palace on the opening day and let in three at Tottenham last weekend.
Today’s Daily Mail reports that Fulham’s goalkeepers were informed of Carreira’s abrupt departure on Wednesday afternoon and he was not present at the club’s Motspur Park training ground on Thursday. The newspaper claims that Carreira found it difficult to settle in London and has returned home to be with his family, who abandoned their plan to relocate to England earlier this month.
Jokanovic is considering a goalkeeping change for Sunday’s clash with Burnley with the lack of English spoken by Fabri and fellow summer signing Sergio Rico causing communication problems with Fulham’s defenders so far. That means academy graduate Marcus Bettinelli, who became the club’s number one during their 23-match unbeaten run at the end of the Championship season, could make his first appearance of the season against the Clarets.
