Brought in from Brentford to be the new Fulham number one goalkeeper in July, David Button immediately bought into Slavisa Jokanovic’s style of play and embraced his role as an adventurous sweeper-keeper. That brought advantages, such as his quick thinking and distribution that delivered a late winner for Tom Cairney at Blackburn early in the season, but was also his downfall as Button eventually paid for the penalty for a series of costly errors, including in a 4-2 defeat at Derby in late 2017. He was sold to Brighton and Hove Albion for £4m in the aftermath of Fulham’s promotion having lost his place to academy graduate Marcus Bettinelli.
