Fulham have tabled a £10m bid for Southampton left back Matt Targett, according to Sky Sports.
The Londoners are keen to try and recruit the former England under-21 international as part of their plans for the forthcoming Premier League season after his successful loan spell at Craven Cottage last season. Targett made 21 appearances after moving to Fulham on loan last January and had an immediate impact as Slavisa Jokanovic’s side went 23 matches unbeaten before being promoted via the Championship play-offs.
For their part, Southampton don’t wish to sell their academy graduate as they see him as a genuine competitor to England international Ryan Bertrand at left back and that was behind Fulham’s decision to make such a big offer. The 22 year-old, who made his senior debut for the Saints back in 2014, has played 42 games for the Saints and is expected to be part of the Saints first-team squad for the new season.
Jokanovic is keen to add at least one left-back to his squad this summer to supplement Fulham’s defensive resources and to allow starlet Ryan Sessegnon to play further up field. Targett is Fulham’s first choice but the Whites have also been linked with move for Bristol City full-back Joe Bryan.
