Brighton and Hove Albion are preparing a big-money move for Fulham’s number two goalkeeper David Button, according to a Sun report this evening.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton has identified Button as the goalkeeper he wants to sign this summer to provide serious competition for Albion’s first-choice keeper Mat Ryan and is prepared to pay £4m to ensure he gets his name. Brighton are eager to move quickly to strengthen their goalkeeping resources as Christian Walton is set to agree another loan spell with Wigan Athletic having helped Paul Cook’s men win promotion to the Championship this season.

Button, who began the season as Fulham’s number one before being dropped by Slavisa Jokanovic after a mistake in December’s derby defeat by his former club Brentford, may well be attracted by the possibility of a new start after slipping behind Marcus Bettinelli in the Craven Cottage pecking order. The 29 year-old, who began his career with Tottenham, has made 61 appearances since signing for Fulham in July 2016.
