Sone Aluko spent little more than a season at Craven Cottage, but he was virtually unplayable in Slavisa Jokanovic’s 2016/2017 side – with his effectiveness undiminished by operating outside of his preferred number ten role, either as a winger or a central striker. The Nigerian international scored nine goals in 54 games, but those numbers don’t tell the full story of an unselfish player who delighted in terrorising opposition defenders and laying on chances for his team-mates. It came as a surprise when Fulham entertained offers from suitors as soon as August 2017 – although not when it emerged that Reading had tabled a bid of £7.5m for his services. Aluko now plays for Ipswich Town.
